In 2012 Tree Field Studies students provided the funds to dig a new water well at the medical clinic in Primavera. This clinic was the sole means of medical support in this town and was under threat of closure due to a faulty well. Tree Field Studies support allowed this clinic to remain open for all of the citizens of the town.

Through the unwaivering diligence of Isreal Mesen Rubi, Tree Field Studies has offered courses that aid local communities by helping them improve their infrastructure. More specifically, students have worked alongside local people building cafeterias for students and living quarters for teachers.

In partnership with Adopt-A-Kid a portion of the fees collected from each field school participant in Costa Rica is used to cover the material expenses for a high school student in Costa Rica. The materials (books, uniform, etc.) cost for one year of high school in Costa Rica is minimal by most Western standards, yet many families cannot afford this expense. By helping young people complete their education we hope to encourage the next generation to continue working for the conservation of Costa Rica’s wildlife.

Through the efforts of Grainne McCabe, and other faculty and staf in Tanzania students created educational materials for local schools focusing in on local conservation needs. In addition, a portion of the student tuition has be used to allow the participation in the Primate Behavior and Ecology course by two local Tanzanian university students that share an interest in primate conservation.
